Kirra Real Estate

OVERVIEW
Kirra is famous for it’s long sweeping surf beaches which offer waves from beginners to advanced surfers. It is widely recognized as one of the leading surf breaks of the world. Kirra was home to Queensland’s first surf life saving club and the area continues to provide a training ground for many of Australia’s surf greats. Kirra has a casual ambience and offers a relaxing place to visit or live. It sits adjacent to Coolangatta, a major regional economic centre.

HISTORY
Captain Cook named Point Danger and Mount Warning as he sailed up the coast in 1770 to warn other sailors. Despite Cook's efforts, in 1846 a ship named the "Coolangatta" was wrecked off the coast and the town was named in its honour. The name Coolangatta is also said to mean ‘pleasant outlook’ in Aboriginal language. The Tweed River was developed as a port from the 1830s to ship cedar. Coolangatta established Queensland’s first surf life saving club in 1909.

NATURAL WONDERS
The north facing pristine beaches of Kirra, Rainbow Bay and Greenmount beach offer a superb ocean experience and clean beachfront parklands. A short drive away are the rivers and estuaries of the Tweed and nearby in the Tweed Basin is the Mount Warning national park.

AMENITIES - RETAIL, COMMERCIAL & INDUSTRIAL
Coolangatta and it’s twin town of Tweed Heads are a major economic centre for the southern gold coast and the expanding Tweed Coast NSW. A variety of al-fresco cafes, restaurants and boutique shops are located on Musgrave Street, Marine Parade & Griffith Street.

The Gold Coast’s international airport is located in Coolangatta and is a catalyst for significant export and business growth in the region. During 2007, the runway was expanded in a significant infrastructure development to accommodate flights from the wider Asia and West Coast of USA regions.

Completion of the Tugun Bypass in 2008 will provide excellent access to the southern region. Extensive road upgrades of the Pacific Highway and future rail transport infrastructure development are a platform for further growth in tourism and export industries.

SCHOOLS
The Gold Coast city has a wide range of government and private schools, several universities and technical colleges. See the Gold Coast Community directory for a full schools list.
